Tech: Am I the only one?

SAT 11 APR 2026: Surely I’m not the only one that has experienced this? The iPhone not sounding for calls but particularly text messages.

No vibration. No nothing.

This has happened a lot over the years, so not just a certain iPhone model or the operating system.

No I’m not suddenly going to turn to Android – it’s not that annoying.

But I do find it annoying that Apple is becoming lax about these sorts of things. It wouldn’t have happened under Steve Jobs’ watch. Perhaps Apple’s stranglehold on superior tech is waining.

Mobile telephones in their infancy seemed a lot more reliable back then. Then again the cellular devices were basically for calls, plain text messages and the game Snake.

Have we tried to make smartphones smarter than we are, and cannot accept the reality that we’ve failed to make the next generation’s breakthrough technology?

It’s said that Apple’s next iteration of iOS will be built from the ground up, breaking free of all the lines of programming that were built upon over the years and discarded but not removed. Then again, Apple is looking at getting into the foldable device game.

All I can see from devices like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and what Apple are planning, is the wear and tear of folding. Maybe we just can’t have a hinge and virtually no screen gap. Just accept that it’s a hinge holding together two separate screens. Science fiction cannot always be science fact.

Perhaps it’s not entirely addiction to our screens, but the fact that we don’t trust them to notify us of incoming calls or text messages.
