The Victorian government wants local councils across the state the institute a fourth bin to go along with the red/burgundy (rubbish), yellow (recycling) and green (organic waste).
According to The Guardian, purple bins were trialled in some areas in 2019, with a statewide rollout expected to be completed by 1 July 2027. The purple bins are exclusively for glass recycling.
It comes down to cost for many. Cost to ratepayers, funding a new bin and council services to collect the purple bin.
